Best for: Glacier tours, hiking, wildlife spotting, and pleasant weather.

  • Weather: Mild temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F), with longer daylight hours.
  • Activities: This is the best time for trekking, boat tours, and glacier excursions such as the famous Perito Moreno Glacier and Lago Argentino cruises. Wildlife is also more active, making it ideal for nature enthusiasts.
  • Crowds & Prices: Expect larger crowds and higher prices, especially from December to February, as it coincides with the peak tourist season.

Recommendation: If you want to enjoy the best weather conditions and full access to tours and attractions, visiting between November and March is ideal.

2. Autumn (April to May) – Shoulder Season

Best for: Fewer crowds and stunning autumn landscapes.

  • Weather: Cooler temperatures ranging from 5°C to 15°C (41°F to 59°F), with vibrant fall colors covering the Patagonian steppe.
  • Activities: Most tours are still operational, and the scenery is particularly stunning with golden and red hues across the landscapes. It’s an excellent time for photography.

Recommendation: If you prefer a quieter experience with comfortable weather, April is a great option.

3. Winter (June to September) – Low Season

Best for: Snow-covered landscapes, budget-friendly travel, and a unique experience.

  • Weather: Cold temperatures ranging from -5°C to 8°C (23°F to 46°F), with snow covering much of the region.
  • Activities: While glacier tours are still available, some trekking routes may be closed or harder to access. However, it’s a perfect time for snow-related activities such as ice trekking and winter photography.
  • Crowds & Prices: The town is much quieter, and prices for accommodations and tours are significantly lower.

Recommendation: Visit during this period if you enjoy winter landscapes and prefer a more tranquil atmosphere.

Day02
EL CALAFATE

Breakfast. We will begin our excursion to Perito Moreno Glacier at the scheduled time. The tour begins bordering the edge of Lake Argentino for around 80 km while catching a glimpse of a great number of European hares, Patagonian hares (maras), caracaras and black-chested buzzard eagles. Proceed along a forest of diverse beech (Nothofagus) species (lenga, Dombey ́s and Antarctic beech) overlooking the southern arm of Lake Argentino (known as “Brazo Rico”) until arriving at the glacier viewpoint. From here and by means of walkways located at different heights and distances, magnificent views of the 190 sq.km ice mass can be taken in. The dominating silence is interrupted only by the blocks of ice detached from the front of the 60-meter high glacier. It is the only glacier that causes periodically a rupture in its front. You may even observe the one and only bird that can fly over the glacier: the condor. Return to the hotel. Accommodation.
